Canon has announced the development of a digital movie camera capable of recording video at 4K resolution (4.096 x 2.160 pixels). Designed for the film industry and production of digital video resolution, the EOS C500 will offer 4K RAW recording and it's available with docking compatibility with EF lenses for Canon and PL fitting the industry standard.

In November 2011 Canon announced the EOS C300 - the first EOS Film Camera System to mark the company's entry in the market for film production. Hailed by professionals in the video, the EOS C300 provides exceptional video quality, mobility, durability and expandability thanks to its modular design and its compatibility with Canon EF lenses and film. The EOS C500/EOS PL C500 will be based on the same platform adding advanced video capturing RAW 4K, and 4:4:4 sampling color during capture 2K.
By supporting video capture 4K resolution with next-generation and data recording in RAW, the EOS C500/EOS PL C500 will provide excellent video without any quality loss. The recording at 4K allows unlocking the potential of premium range of Canon EF Cinema, in combination with Canon Log Gamma, which provides the high video quality and wide exposure latitude required by professional digital video. Furthermore, the signal RGB 4:4:4 12-bit during the video capture 2K (2,048 x 1,080 pixels) will provide rich color and high compatibility with imaging processes such as chroma key composition. The support frame rate up to 120p in both 2K and 4K resolutions, will offer greater creative flexibility allows recording high-speed video (slow motion) for high resolution.
The EOS prototype C500 will be presented at NAB 2012, one of the largest fairs in the video industry, radio broadcasting and digital media to be held 16-19 April in Las Vegas.
